The family who occupies this home are returning clients of ours who needed more space, greater comfort, and a serene environment for their growing family—a home they could settle into and enjoy for decades to come.
Their previous home, also designed by LIM, was a contemporary, muted and tonal experience. With this home, we wanted to break the mould and create something special - an interior that would transcend trends and feel as relevant in 20 years' time as it does today.
We achieved this by playing with scale, architectural elements, layers of pattern and texture, and, to our surprise, with great success, thoughtful injections of colour.
The home's grand first impression is immediately softened as you step through the front door. A collection of existing rugs, antique and vintage furniture, and a great art collection provided exactly what the home needed to bring it to life, while keeping it grounded for everyday family living and gathering.
New elements were introduced through generously scaled upholstery in contemporary fabrics, with silhouettes that respectfully nod to the past. A celebration of natural materials also became a defining feature, with the original travertine floors carefully preserved and complemented by beautiful leathered marbles and stone, rich timbers, and a seamless indoor-outdoor connection that showcases the garden beyond. Exceptionally crafted joinery was thoughtfully integrated throughout, allowing each space to function beautifully in its own right while contributing to the home's overall sense of cohesion and enduring old-world charm.
